COMMON CONCERNS ADDRESSED IN COUPLES THERAPY
COMMUNICATION ISSUES
Are you and your partner feeling like you just can't get on the same page? You find yourself arguing more and communicating to defend your position rather than communicating to understand each other. Couples therapy can help identify your current communication style and work to build healthy communication with each other.
AFFAIRS & INFIDELITY
Sometimes an individual who experience's a partner's infidelity can have similar symptoms to Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Recovery from feelings of betrayal, lack of trust, anger, guilt, and shame takes work from each partner. Therapy focuses on processing events and making sense of feelings so that the trauma doesn't define the rest of your life--as a couple or individual.
EMOTIONAL DISTANCE
Unresolved conflict and life stressors in your relationship can cause you to feel emotionally distant from your partner. This feeling is sometimes described as "feeling numb". In couples work, emotionally focused therapy technique is used to strengthen emotional bonds.

If you're having less intimate moments, it can make you feel disconnected from your partner, and therefore less interested in forming deeper connections. Other issues that can create intimacy issues include infidelity and stress.
SIGNIFICANT LIFE EVENTS
Life altering events can cause couples to have to adapt and be flexible. Sometimes this can lead to emotional turmoil based on each partner's needs. Techniques in therapy are used help couples adjust to change.
OVERCOMING TRAUMA
Living through traumatic events may result in expectations of danger, betrayal, or potential harm within new or old relationships. Individuals may feel vulnerable and confused about what is safe, and therefore it may be difficult to trust others, even those whom they have trusted in the past.
